Welcome, BGJHS Assistant Principal Darlene Porter

Bowling Green Junior High has selected Darlene Porter as Assistant Principal. Robert Lightning made the official announcement in an email to faculty and staff on Friday, June 21, 2019.

Darlene Porter, BGJHSMs. Porter is currently the Assistant Principal/Dean of Students for Alvaton Elementary in Warren County. Most recent responsibilities have included collaboration for a positive school culture, as well as maintaining a safe learning environment, including but not limited to student behavior expectations and procedures. Prior to being named Assistant Principal, Ms. Porter served as Curriculum Coordinator for ten years, with five years at Alvaton Elementary and five years at Briarwood Elementary. In this role, she was responsible for building assessments, professional development, extended school services, response to intervention, and was the gifted and talented resource teacher. From 1998 to 2001, Ms. Porter served as an elementary teacher, teaching first and second grades.

Ms. Porter has a Bachelors, Masters, and Rank I from WKU and certifications include Instructional Leadership, Instructional Supervisor, and endorsements for teaching math grades 5-8, science 5-8, and gifted education K-12. She has participated in professional development such as the Kentucky Principal Academy, the Thoughtful Education Teacher Leader, and has also been involved in District Curriculum Mapping. She has served as a presenter for the Leader in Me Symposium, the Kentucky Teaching and Learning Conference, and is a Certified Trainer for the 7 Habits and Ruby Payne. She is also certified as a Google Level I educator.

Principal Lightning said, “I believe Ms. Porter’s experience as an assistant principal/dean of students, curriculum coordinator, as well as her knowledge of middle grades curriculum and gifted education will be a great addition to our administrative team.”

Ms. Porter will officially begin her responsibilities with BGISD on July 1, 2019.
