In order for students to be successful in the Pre-Advanced Placement (Pre-AP) Biology classes at BGJHS, they must:
Must be able to exhibit comprehension of readings from a variety of text from 9-12th grade and college level materials (high school Biology and Chemistry books).
Must concurrently be enrolled in Algebra I.
Must maintain an 80% or higher to obtain high school credit
Must be prepared to take the state administered End of Course Assessment or EOC Assessment.
All science classes are being taught according to the national standards, so all students are being exposed to their grade level material, which is rigorous preparation for high school science classes, regardless of whether they are in an advanced class. An “A” in a regular science class means that a student is mastering the grade level content, which is what we want to see. It is not always an indicator that a child needs to be in an advanced science class. Before making the decision to place your child in advanced classes, please make sure he/she has mastered the basic skills. Research shows that if a child does not have the basic skills, then upper level courses will be very difficult.
