BGISD Results on the 2023 Kentucky Summative Assessments

Now Open: The Purple Brew

The Purple Brew Coffee Shop is open for business. The shop is operated by Bowling Green High School students including daily food and drink preparations, financial transactions and reporting, marketing, and curating the menu. This hands-on experience gives students the opportunity to apply classroom knowledge in a real-world setting at school.

The Purple Brew is an extension of the BGISD Child Nutrition Department and six BGHS students, including four taking courses in the Culinary Arts Department, have been hired to work for the spring 2024 semester. Each student employee has completed required training as school nutrition staff, and may work up to 8 hours per week.

BGHS Child Nutrition collaborates with local businesses and suppliers to provide high-quality baked goods and fruit in the shop, which qualifies as reimbursable meals as part of the district’s free breakfast program. Drinks purchased outside of the reimbursable meal are from $1.25 to $2.75.

The coffee and espresso equipment was selected by BGHS students last year during a trip to Smyrna, TN. The equipment is designed to quickly and efficiently produce specialty drinks such as lattes, hot chocolate, macchiato, frappes, and regular coffee. All drinks are sugar-free and offered hot or cold.

The name, “The Purple Brew,” was voted on and selected by students in October as part of the BGHS Citizenship Day.

The Purple Brew is open on school days beginning at 7:15 a.m. with the last order at 8:10 a.m. before 1st period. A second opportunity for coffee is offered between first and second periods.
