6th Grade Algebra Path

Below are the Mastery Learning Targets, or priorities for all students to be successful when they advance to 7th Grade Algebra. Mastery (M) of these skills means the student has met the grade-level standard and is independently performing on grade level. Mastery takes time to develop and may take the full school year.

RATIOS AND PROPORTIONAL RELATIONSHIPS

  • Calculates the price per one quantity and speed, such as miles per one hour. 

THE NUMBER SYSTEM

  • Solves problems involving adding and subtracting rational numbers.  (DECIMALS only)     

  • Solves problems involving adding and subtracting rational numbers.  (FRACTIONS only)

  • Solves problems involving multiplying and dividing rational numbers.  (DECIMALS only)

  • Solves problems involving multiplying and dividing rational numbers.  (FRACTIONS only)

  • Finds the distance between points on a coordinate plane using absolute value.

EXPRESSIONS AND EQUATIONS

  • Simplifies algebraic expressions (including distributive property and combining like terms)

  • Writes and solves one and two-step equations. 

  • Writes and solves one and two-step inequalities.

GEOMETRY

  • Identifies and uses angle pairs to write and solve equations.

  • Finds the volume of right prisms and pyramids.

  • Finds the surface area of right prisms and pyramids.

STATISTICS AND PROBABILITY

  • Displays a data set using plots on a number line (dot plots, histograms, and box plots)

  • Summarizes numerical data sets using mean, median, mode, range, and mean absolute deviation
