6th Grade Math

Below are the Mastery Learning Targets, or priorities for all students to be successful when they advance to 7th Grade Math. Mastery (M) of these skills means the student has met the grade-level standard and is independently performing on grade level. Mastery takes time to develop and may take the full school year.

RATIOS AND PROPORTIONAL RELATIONSHIPS

  • Uses ratios in real world situations.

  • Uses and calculates rates in real world situations (i.e. unit pricing, speed)

THE NUMBER SYSTEM

  • Divides positive fractional numbers. 

  • Adds, subtracts, multiplies and divides positive decimal numbers. 

  • Plots ordered pairs on a coordinate plane.

  • Identifies positive, negative and opposite numbers on a number line. 

EXPRESSIONS AND EQUATIONS

  • Writes and evaluates numerical expressions.

  • Writes and evaluates algebraic expressions. 

  • Creates and solves one-step equations. 

  • Creates and solves one-step inequalities. 

GEOMETRY

  • Calculates the area of 2-D shapes. 

  • Calculates the volume of rectangular prisms. 


STATISTICS AND PROBABILITY

  • Calculates the mean, median, mode, range, and mean absolute deviation of a data set. 

  • Describes the distribution of numerical data using displays.
