6th Grade Science

Below are the Mastery Learning Targets, or priorities for all students to be successful when they advance to 7th Grade Science. Mastery (M) of these skills means the student has met the grade-level standard and is independently performing on grade level. Mastery takes time to develop and may take the full school year.

  • Models and explains that gravity is a force found between any two objects.

  • Designs a solution to a problem that involves two colliding objects.

  • Plans an investigation to show an object's motion depends on the sum of forces on the object and the mass of the object.

  • Argues that gravity depends on the distance and masses between objects.

  • Models, identifies, and explains patterns of motions of the Sun, Earth, and Moon.

  • Compares and contrasts the measurements and/or scale of objects in the solar system, using data.

  • Models to explain how matter is cycled and energy drives this process on Earth.

  • Constructs an explanation for how geoscience processes have changed Earth's surface.

  • Develops a model of the water cycle and how energy drives its process.

  • Collects data that shows how the movements and interactions of air masses lead to changes in weather conditions.
