8th Grade Math

Below are the Mastery Learning Targets, or priorities for all students to be successful when they advance to Bowling Green High School. Mastery (M) of these skills means the student has met the grade-level standard and is independently performing on grade level. Mastery takes time to develop and may take the full school year.

  • Solves equations of the form x^2 = p or x^3 = p.

  • Simplifies expressions using exponent laws.

  • Compares proportional relationships using graphs, tables, and equations.

  • Determines the slope of a line using similar triangles.

  • Solves multi-step linear equations.

  • Solves a system of linear equations by graphing and/or substitution.

  • Determines if a graph, equation, table, or set of ordered pairs is a function.

  • Compares the rate of change and/or initial value of two functions represented in different ways (graph, table, equation, ordered pair, etc).

  • Writes an equation to represent a linear relationship.

  • Solves real-world problems using the Pythagorean Theorem.

  • Reflects, translates, rotates, and dilates a two-dimensional figure using coordinates.

  • Constructs a scatterplot and identifies patterns between the two quantities.

  • Writes an equation for the line of best fit and uses it to solve problems, then explains the meaning of the slope and y-intercept based on the data.
