Clay Stephens has been named Director of Pupil Personnel for Bowling Green Independent Schools. He will join the district administrative team on July 1, 2026. Stephens is currently serving as an Assistant Principal at Bowling Green High School with a focus on BGHS juniors and seniors. This includes discipline and support services, as well as safety on campus, emergency procedures, logistics and parking, both for the school day and extracurricular activities.
Stephens transitions to the role of Director of Pupil Personnel (DPP) with extensive experience in student development, data analysis, and administrative oversight. He has successfully utilized technology to monitor attendance and behavior trends, implementing school-wide systems that reinforce classroom expectations and regulatory compliance.
As Director of Pupil Personnel, Stephens will be responsible for maintaining and supporting student attendance records, overseeing mental health and social work services across the district, managing the district’s school nurse contract with Graves Gilbert Clinic, and supervising the Family Resource and Youth Services Centers (FRYSC).

Stephens served as a teacher and football coach for ten years before joining Bowling Green Independent Schools in 2020. He was first hired as an alternative school and physical education teacher as well as Assistant Football Coach at BGHS, then moved to the role of Dean of Students in 2023 and Assistant Principal in 2024.
Stephens has an undergraduate degree from Western Kentucky University, where he was Co-Captain of the Hilltopper Football Team and received the Al Almond award for character, loyalty, ability and love of fellow man. His graduate degrees and certifications are from the University of the Cumberlands, including a Master of Arts, Rank I, and Ed S.
