Teachers across the district applied to collaborate and learn new skills alongside colleagues and the BGISD Technology Department. These seven teachers will spend one afternoon per month for professional learning, plus receive $300 to spend in their classrooms.

What is the function of the liver and how does that relate to enzymes?
BGHS students tested chemical reactions with chicken liver enzymes. They observed hydrogen peroxide break down into water and oxygen, and tested both temperature and pH to see how the enzymes responded in different environments.

More theatre at BGJHS… The AcTours program from the Ramsey Theatre Company presented “The Revolutionary Choice: Freedom or the Crown” written by BGJHS teacher Shawn Quinn. The performance is about the choice the colonists faced when declaring independence 250 years ago.

Once upon a time in kindergarten… McNeill Elementary students act out classic fairy tales with help from WKU Theatre in Education students.
Hands-On Learning for Agriculture Awareness Week!
Mrs. Rhonda Dotson brought fresh soybean plants from Dotson Farms for McNeill First graders to have a hands-on look. Students examined the pods, discussed everyday soy uses, and watched how soybeans are harvested on farms.

After learning about safe kitchen practices, Culinary I students entered the lab to find a mock crime scene. Ms. Whitis challenged them to find more than 20 hazards and potential contamination in the kitchen areas. Students completed reports then wrote articles explaining what could have happened to their “victim.”

Options and Opportunities 🎓
Bowling Green High School hosted "Options and Opportunities," on Wednesday for seniors to learn more about post-graduation pathways.
Sessions included topics such as College Finances, SKYCTC programs and the Work Ready Scholarship, Scholarship Essay Writing, Collegiate Athletics and Academics, Interview Skills, Personal Finance, and Military Recruitment Options.
Thanks to presenters including Anne Padilla (BGHS Faculty Emeritus), Bethany Smith (WKU TRIO), Jamale Carothers (Class of 2017, Biggs Financial Services), Gia Martin (BGHS Class of 2020, Auburn University at Montgomery), Courtney Taylor (SKYCTC), Elizabeth Gannon, Caleb Penick and Dr. Melinda Grimsley (WKU Honors College), Jennifer O’Connor (Junior Achievement/CRI Advisors), Zach Jones, Austin Walker and Allessa Hall (WKU's Center for Financial Success Sponsored by Abound Credit Union), and Military Recruiters representing the Navy, Kentucky National Guard, Army, and Marines.
The event ended with Senior Sundaes sponsored by HotWorx Bowling Green.

Kindness Takeover 2026
Think Kindness President and Founder Brian Willams visited three schools Wednesday, challenging students at Dishman McGinnis, Potter Gray, and McNeill Elementary Schools to complete and document random acts of kindness over the next 15 days. The students are to be “Kindness Ninjas” helping others quietly without attention.

Beginning in 4th grade, BGISD students have the opportunity to learn to play the violin, viola, cello, or double bass. Instruction by Ms. Aleka Chau takes place two days a week during the school day and students may participate in both choir and strings.
Students have the option to rent an instrument or borrow one that is school-owned. Pictured are students from 4th and 5th grades, some students with their instruments for the first time.

Potter Gray 5th graders are on a survival journey reading “Hatchet” by Gary Paulsen. Beyond the excitement of a great book, Ms. McClure transformed her classroom into a Canadian wilderness with more adventures planned as they complete the chapters.

6th graders celebrate joining BGJHS with a Friday afternoon Pep Rally!
Sixth grade is when students from all five BGISD elementary schools come together as one Purple Family.
During the event, the BGJHS dance team performed and cheerleaders led Purple cheers. Plus, BGHS Senior Piper Boyd shared advice on getting involved and making the most of every opportunity offered. The first week full of school ended with games and lots of school spirit.

New Computer Science LEGO Robotics Kits are coming soon to BGISD elementary schools! The District Technology Department has been awarded $5,000 TVA STEM Robotics grant from the Tennessee Valley Authority, in partnership with Bowling Green Municipal Utilities, and Bicentennial Volunteers Incorporated (a TVA retiree organization).

We are proud to announce that the Bowling Green Junior High 8th Grade Band has been selected to perform at the 2027 Kentucky Music Educators Association (KMEA) Conference in February!
Selection to perform at the KMEA Conference is one of the highest state honors a school music program can achieve. This accomplishment reflects the talent, discipline, and dedication of our student musicians, and the support of our directors, families, and community.

School Bus Safety: STOP means STOP!
Drivers in both directions must stop on two- or three-lane roads, including roads with center turn lanes, and four-lane roads separated only by painted lines or paved medians.
Traffic driving the opposite direction of a school bus is exempt from stopping *only* on highways with four or more lanes that include a physical median, such as a raised concrete barrier or unpaved/grass in between lanes.
