The BGHS Environmental Club is harvesting lettuce they’ve grown to be used in the school cafeteria.

The Environmental Club purchased a hydroponics chamber with grant money received from the TVA School Uplift Program. Students are growing lettuce and basil and today, learned about food safety from Director of Food Services Operations Dalla Emerson before harvesting the first plants to be used on the school’s salad bar.

Greg Hosfield of RossTarrant Architects shares design plans for the addition and renovation of Bowling Green Junior High.

The project is expected to begin in late spring 2026 and includes adding spaces for band, orchestra, choir, drama, science classrooms and labs, as well as a multipurpose room for technology and media. The additions are planned for construction from the existing school toward the bus loop, creating an additional hallway inside the building. These additions also allow classrooms to be repurposed in the current hallways.

The school’s front office, cafeteria, kitchen and food storage areas will be renovated and expanded. And finally, the media center and main hallways of the school will be renovated, with improvements to acoustics and the removal of lockers in the halls.

The goal is for the BGJHS project to be completed by the start of school in August 2028.

Students and teachers from Gutenberg-Gymnasium in Erfurt, Germany have been visiting Bowling Green since October 25th as part of the German American Partnership Program (GAPP). The group has spent time shadowing host students at Bowling Green High School, weekends with local families, seeing local attractions and learning about local government. Today, they are both sharing about their home and school as well as experiencing a day at an American elementary school with T. C. Cherry.

🇩🇪 GAPP is a nonprofit for school-to-school exchanges with U.S. schools, helping participants learn about language and culture.

Led by Dr. Ferrel Rose at BGHS, this is the 25th year and 10th exchange between the two schools.
